Jammu, Aug 06 (KNO): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said the government is committed to strengthening religious and tourism infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to reporters here Chief Minister Omar, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said, “Jammu is known as the City of Temples. People generally come here to seek the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi and visit the temples. They come here to bow before the deities and offer prayers. We want to further strengthen religious tourism in Jammu so that more devotees visit the region and the local economy also benefits.” Referring to the Cabinet’s recent decisions, the Chief Minister said one of the approvals was to lease the old ITDC hotel in Gulmarg to a private operator for the next 40 years to boost tourism infrastructure. He said the Cabinet has also decided to lease the Mantalai Yoga Centre to a private party for 30 years to develop it as a world-class wellness retreat. “It will create a magnificent tourism asset in this far-flung area of Jammu and help attract more visitors while boosting the local economy,” CM Omar said. He reiterated that the government is focusing on developing tourism destinations across the Union Territory and added, “There is no area with tourism potential that we are ignoring.”—(KNO)
